Jump across to The Flying Arts website and check out all the amazing works and send us a vote! Medium: Acrylic on Canvas, 2023 Dimensions: 101.6 x 3.5 x 76.0 cm Artist Statement: I have an unspoken, ingrained sense to create. My understanding of life’s journey develops through working with the visual. My work explores a perspective on the human psyche and our interconnected mental health. I find most powerful connections come to life when exploring the human spirit and offerings of our country. Louder and louder, whilst also unseen. To bring to life the feeling of the loud discomfort disguised by the beauty in colour. How we may feel and what is expressed can be the blurred lines in our perspective. Rainbow Haze is an auric field of our subconscious. Our eyes the windows to our soul. Sometimes feeling less colourful than we are seen. The terminal between fear and courage, discomfort and ease, stagnation and transformation. We internalize each slow moving creepy crawly. Most of the time hidden beneath the rainbow haze of our personalities. So, we journey the pathway of growth, through health and healing. Unable to chase away the fear but come to understand the correlation to our safety. Weaving anchor points of resilience and opportunity. Allowing us the moment for transformation into beautiful colourful creatures. Photographer: Rachel South |
Brisbane Portrait Prize 2023Self Portrait: Where The Wild Things Grow
The Brisbane Portrait Prize is all about celebrating Brisbane portrait artists and their sitters, while encouraging public engagement with the arts. It is with great pleasure and gratitude that my self portrait is a Finalist in this years 2023 Prize on show at the Brisbane Powerhouse until 29th October.
'Once I was a child, endless places you could go through the mind's eye. The foundations of my story in a typical Australian household. A split face block A frame house in the suburbs of Brisbane. A window on each side at the peak of the roof overlooking the bush and neighborhood. You could watch all the creatures sitting patiently waiting for their prey. Observers observing. Over time, I have come to question what it is all for? The layers of hereditary conditioning can be all restricting to our thinking. Artist was not on the list to bring you success. Determined to prove my purpose, I spent my practice trying to find the right ingredient, all the while, I was actually developing my story. The flow of paint, its translucency. The way colour gives life to a form. Connecting with people as a tool for healing, for awareness and voice. This is how I become my authentic self '. Extra Special Surprise Note - Your artwork has been selected to be hung in a further showcase in the foyer of Central Plaza One (345 Adelaide Street, Brisbane). This exhibition will take place from October 31st - November 20th, 2023. |

Outisde In - St Vincent's Hospital'Outside In' aims to provide patients with a connection from the hospital to the outside world. Artworks engender encounters with people, places and experiences beyond the hospital itself. They provide opportunities for reflection and contemplation, engaging memory and recognition, inspiration and motivation.”
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane I am thrilled to be apart of another successful and important exhibition program which brings the outside world upfront and personal for many patients. To make an impact on someone's day in the slightest of ways through my visual stories is what I create for. It seemed especially important when my works were shown across the Cancer ward. "Decadence"
The Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) is an annual visual arts prize and exhibition for established and emerging artists living in regional and remote Queensland. The program aims to provide a platform for further professional development. In 2020, artists were encouraged to explore the complex notion of decadence within their own communities and households across Queensland – both in times of shortage, and in times of plenty. "Their Excellencies" was chosen as a finalist and had the wonderful journey around Queenslands most remote galleries for the following twelve months. |
