Crowning Structures is a series of two-layered metal works that explore the poetic and architectural resonance between hair and shelter. Each piece features a hair swatch, most commonly found at the hairdresser's, rendered in the familiar Australian Colourbond palette, merging industrial materiality with personal identity.
Like the roof of a house, hair serves as a protective layer and a strong indicator of style, age, culture, and social status. Just as roofs shield and express the character of a dwelling, hair crowns and frames the human form.
By using the Colourbond range, iconic in Australian domestic architecture, these works connect our built environments to our physical presence, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior, between personal body and public architecture.
