Nest in Ash speaks to the fragile act of finding sanctuary, of building softness atop the residue of grief, memory, or transformation.
A single eye emerges from an intricate surface of fur-like feathers, evoking the feeling of being both hidden and seen, a quiet tension between concealment and exposure. The eye a portal contrasted by a dark tonal palette, simultaneously conveys a sense of withdrawal, evoking the urge to retreat inward. Through repeated layering of paint, the surface builds into a tactile softness that suggests comfort, protection, and the instinct to nest.
Referencing recurring motifs of fur and feathers, this work reflects on the body as both sanctuary and shield. It asks us to consider the sensory and symbolic spaces we construct around ourselves in search of safety, identity, and the feeling of home.
